Ecomate® Celebrates 15 Years of US EPA SNAP Approval
Back in the late 1990s, Foam Supplies set out to develop the most environmentally sustainable and responsible polyurethane blowing agent available. Out of that extensive research and development came our patented ecomate technology in 2002 – the world’s first polyurethane blowing agent with no ozone depletion or global warming potential, as well as VOC exempt status (meaning ecomate-based foams do not contribute to smog production).
Just one year later, in August of 2003, the US EPA first listed ecomate as an approved substitute for CFCs and HCFCs under its SNAP (Significant New Alternatives Policy) Program. Other blowing agents approved at that time (HFCs) were later found to have high global warming potential, which is why they are currently being phased out.
Today, 15 years later, ecomate remains the most tested, proven and sold “next generation” blowing agent technology worldwide. In fact, no other blowing agent can match ecomate’s environmental performance while also providing its reliable, best-in-class insulating properties, reasonable costs and many other benefits. Additional SNAP listings were granted for ecomate in 2004 and 2006, as well as in the EPA’s 2015 and 2016 rulings regarding HFC phase outs.
Regardless of the EPA’s future actions, the entire world is moving away from HFCs. And as it does, ecomate will be here to help companies meet state, federal and international regulations – with a proven, 100% natural solution. New blowing agents have come along, and others will surely follow. But none of them can match ecomate’s proven 15-year track record of success in a wide range of industries.
