The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is set to phase out substances that deplete the OZONE layer.
The Montreal Protocol was negotiated in 1987 and is now recognized in over 188 countries. It has been recognized as an integral in reversing the damage done to the OZONE layer by chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and hydrofluorocarbons (HCFCs). The production of HCFCs by industrial nations has been reduced. But the output in nations such as China and India is growing faster than expected. The aim of the Montreal Protocol is to prevent the unnecessary HCFC growth and accelerate reductions across the globe.
