Resichem Commits To Exclusive Use Of Environmentally Safe Polyurethane Foam Blowing Agent Ahead Of New Regulation

SUMMARY: Resichem, the leading South African provider of polyurethane foam systems, is eliminating HCFC-141b blowing agent from its products in advance of the upcoming ban effective January 1, 2016. Resichem will now dramatically increase its use of ecomate® blowing agent from Foam Supplies, Inc., which has no environmental impact.

JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA – Resichem, the leading South African provider of polyurethane foam systems to a range of industries, has announced an expansion of its agreement with Foam Supplies, Inc. (FSI) which will dramatically increase its use of FSI’s environmentally benign polyurethane foam blowing agent called ecomate®. Resichem has been slowly transitioning to ecomate® for several years, and will now completely eliminate its use of HCFC-141b in accordance with the South Africa Hydrochlorofluorocarbons Phase-out Management Plan, scheduled to take effect January 1, 2016.

Resichem has a long history of teaming with global industry leaders like FSI to bring the latest and most advanced polyurethane foam systems and application technologies to the South African market. In fact, in 2007, Resichem was the first company to commercially introduce FSI’s environmentally friendly ecomate® to sub-Saharan Africa. Now, by totally eliminating HCFC-141b blowing agent from the company’s products and replacing it with ecomate®, Resichem will be able to help manufacturers create products that do not contribute to global warming, ozone depletion or smog production.

Ecomate® blowing agent was introduced in the United States in 2002 as a next generation foam blowing agent that would not have the negative environmental impacts of other blowing agents, such as CFCs, HCFCs and HFCs. After being granted a world-wide patent in 2002, ecomate® today is used around the world in a wide range of industries to produce rigid, spray and flexible polyurethane foam, as well as integral skin.

Resichem supplies and services the South African market from self managed distribution centres in Gauteng (head office), KwaZulu Natal, Eastern Cape and Western Cape. Their rigid and flexible polyurethane systems, including those containing ecomate® blowing agent, are all developed in house with the back up of experienced technical personnel and a fully serviced analytical and physical testing laboratory.
